Travelers heading between Busan and Seoul during Korea’s summer vacation season should prepare for heavy traffic, with the busiest travel days expected to be August 1 for outbound trips and August 2 for return journeys.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has designated July 25 through August 10 as a Special Transportation Period, as more than 104 million passenger trips are expected nationwide during the 17-day holiday period.

Driving from Seoul to Busan on August 1 is expected to take around six hours, while the return trip from Busan to Seoul on August 2 could take approximately six hours and 10 minutes, making it the busiest weekend of the summer travel season.

To ease congestion, the government will increase transportation capacity across the country.

Express bus services will be expanded by 12.2%, rail services will operate additional trains, and domestic and international flights will increase by 8.3%.

At Gimhae International Airport, the second international departure hall will operate during peak morning hours to accommodate higher passenger volumes.

Authorities are also strengthening safety measures in anticipation of summer heatwaves and heavy rainfall.

Intelligent CCTV systems will monitor highways for hazards, navigation services will provide real-time road closure information, and contingency plans have been prepared for disruptions affecting roads, railways, airports, and ferry services.

Officials are encouraging travelers between Busan and Seoul to check traffic conditions before departing, use public transportation where possible, and allow extra travel time during the peak holiday weekend.
