Busan’s “Metro Marine” themed subway trains are returning this summer, once again transforming parts of the city’s metro system into moving displays inspired by Busan’s coastal scenery and tourist attractions.

According to Busan Transportation Corporation, themed “Metro Marine” trains began operating this month and will continue running through September on Busan Metro Lines 1 and 2.

The project is part of the annual “Busan Marine Event” organized in cooperation with the Busan Metropolitan Transit Citizen Fund. The initiative is designed to make public transportation part of the city’s tourism experience while offering unexpected visual attractions for residents and visitors.

This year, two Metro Marine subway trains, one on each line, will operate alongside six themed buses, including five city buses and one village bus traveling throughout Busan.

The 2026 theme is “Yoonseul,” a Korean term describing sunlight shimmering on water.

The interiors feature large-scale designs inspired by Busan’s ocean scenery and major tourist landmarks, including Oryukdo, Gwangan Bridge, Gamcheon Culture Village, and the Songdo Marine Cable Car.

The themed decorations are installed specifically in the fourth car of each subway train.
