Busan plans to introduce English-language taxi receipts across the city as part of efforts to reduce fare disputes and improve its image as an international tourism destination.
According to the Busan Metropolitan Government, an agreement has been reached with the private taxi association to add English to receipts, and discussions with corporate taxi operators are underway. The city aims to implement the system in all taxis during the first half of the year.
The new receipts will display key information in English, including payment time, pickup and drop-off times, and the total fare. Authorities are also reviewing separate English labels such as “Base fee,” “Meter fare,” and “Toll fee.”
The measure will apply to the entire fleet of roughly 18,000 taxis operating in Busan — about 13,000 private taxis and 5,000 corporate units.
Officials expect minimal additional cost since receipts already print on blank paper, requiring only minor software and printing adjustments. After coordination with taxi groups and payment terminal providers, testing will begin ahead of the rollout later this year.
