People hoping to catch a glimpse of the Chuseok full moon in Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam may be disappointed this year, with cloudy conditions expected to obscure the moon across much of the region.

According to the Busan Meteorological Office, cloud cover is forecast to increase from the afternoon of September 25, with generally overcast skies expected through the evening. The thick clouds are likely to make viewing the Chuseok moon difficult in most areas.

The moon is expected to rise at 5:25 p.m. in Busan, 5:24 p.m. in Ulsan, 5:26 p.m. in Changwon, 5:27 p.m. in Tongyeong and 5:29 p.m. in Jinju.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate further on September 26, when occasional rain is forecast across Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam as a low-pressure system moves across the South Sea.

This year’s astronomical full moon will also come later than Chuseok itself. The moon will reach its fullest phase at 1:49 a.m. on September 27.

As a result, the moon on Chuseok night will appear nearly full but will not yet be a perfectly round full moon.
