Spring in Korea is all about the flowers. Besides cherry blossoms, there are many more beautiful flowers that flourish during the season. In  April, you’ll see many tulips blooming all around the peninsula.

Add these tulip festivals to your travel wish list and enjoy viewing the beautiful  flowers with your family and loved ones.

Taean Tulip Festival

The Taean Tulip Festival (태안튤립축제) dates back to 2012 and is one of the most fascinating tulip festivals in South Korea. In both 2012 and 2017, this display of beautiful tulips was named one of the top 5 festivals by the World Tulip Summit.

The seasonal floral event takes place at Korea Flower Park in Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, which is an ideal place to spend a day outside. Here approximately 1.5 million tulips of 300 different varieties, as well as lovely spring flowers such as daffodils, lilies, pansies, and Lupinus, are on full display. The festival is scheduled to open April 9 and run until May 9 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Entry must be before 6 p.m.). On the weekends, closing hours are extended to 8 p.m.

The park also has many impressive Dutch-style buildings, flower gardens, windmills, and replicas of some world-famous landmarks, including an Eiffel Tower and one of the Great Pyramids.

Aside from its beautiful park of flowers, Taean is known for being a scenic beach spot, so make sure to make enough time to enjoy the area.

Shinan Tulip Festival

Every year, thousands of travelers head to the Shinan Tulip Festival (신안튤립축제) on Imjado Island (임자도). The island, a southwestern county composed of about 1,000 islands, creates a unique atmosphere for viewing the upwards of 50 different species of tulips. Arrive early and spend some extra time the animal farm, greenhouse and artificial ponds that allow you to have a pleasant stroll along the garden trails.

The festival is scheduled April 8-11. For the last two years this picturesque festival was cancelled, so this will be the first year back since COVID-19.

The park and surrounding region are a great place to enjoy a spring day. Though the location might seem difficult to get to, thanks to the new bridge system linking the islands, it’s a breeze!
