Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), one of Seoul’s most iconic landmarks, is transforming into a space of light and design that shines 365 days a year.
The media art project “Dream in Light” will run from November 20 to 30, filling the DDP complex with light installations, projections, and visual art from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each evening.
The project aims to establish DDP as a permanent “landmark of light,” covering the building’s 222-meter facade, the “Miraero” bridge, and the Yugu Exhibition Plaza.
After this pilot operation, the installation will become a year-round feature starting in January 2026, expanding on the expertise gained from the successful “Seoul Light DDP” events held in previous years.
“Dream in Light” uses Seoul’s urban energy, culture, and weather to create an immersive nightscape across four themed installations. The first, “Sky Light,” visualizes real-time weather data including temperature, rainfall, and cloud conditionsthrough 17 different color and brightness patterns projected onto DDP’s exterior.
The lighting shifts from warm, comforting tones in winter to cool, refreshing hues in summer, transforming the city’s atmosphere while offering a sense of calm and respite.
The second theme, “Infinite Scape: Expansion of Light,” takes place on the Miraero bridge, connecting DDP with its surrounding area.
Through a blend of laser art, projection mapping, and sound, it merges tradition and futurism, analog and digital aesthetics, creating an almost dreamlike experience where reality and imagination blur.
At the Yugu Exhibition Plaza, “Big Move with Lia Kim,” a collaboration with leading performance group 1MILLION, integrates light, sound, and dance in a dynamic media performance.
Originally premiered at the 2021 Seoul Light DDP, the piece returns by popular demand, depicting giant human silhouettes moving to rhythmic city beats in a stunning fusion of motion and light.
The final feature celebrates ENHYPEN’s fifth anniversary with “ENHYPEN ENniversary,” a K-pop-inspired light show that syncs the group’s hit “Polaroid Love” to changing colors and laser patterns across DDP’s full facade, turning the structure into a massive visual concert.
The “Dream in Light” program is free to the public and will continue as part of Seoul’s permanent nightscape offerings after the “Seoul Light DDP Winter” season concludes in January 2026.
