The former Hoengcheon Station site in Hadong has been transformed into a new cultural and tourism destination, with the completion of the Garonae Railway Culture Park.

The long-idle railway property surrounding the old station has been redeveloped into a resident-friendly cultural and leisure complex.

The 4.7 billion won project began construction in October 2024 and was completed in December 2025, focusing on revitalizing the abandoned station building and unused rail space while preserving the area’s historical character.

Rather than demolish the past, the project retained the exterior of the former station to maintain its nostalgic charm.

Portions of the original railway tracks were also preserved as symbolic features, allowing visitors to experience the lingering traces of the region’s rail history.

Inside the restored station building, a café space has been created, offering a relaxed setting where visitors can enjoy both rest and culture.

Outdoors, walking paths, lawns and seating areas provide an accessible everyday gathering space for residents.

Nighttime landscape lighting further enhances the park’s appeal, making it attractive both day and evening.

A 15-hole mini golf course has also been added, introducing a family-friendly activity that broadens the park’s tourism potential.

More than a simple beautification project, the Garonae Railway Culture Park represents a meaningful example of urban regeneration, preserving local memory while creating a new hub of community vitality.
