A slow-delivery mailbox installed on Gwangalli Beach has steadily grown into one of the area’s most distinctive attractions, encouraging visitors to return to the seaside district a year after their initial visit.

Operated by Suyeong District Office, the snail-shaped mailbox known as Dalpaengi Talk allows visitors to write postcards on site, which are delivered exactly one year later.

According to Suyeong District, domestic postcards sent through the mailbox rose from 34,903 in 2023 to 53,803 last year.

International mail also increased over the same period, reaching 4,449 postcards sent overseas.

Opened in March 2021 near Namcheon-dong, the mailbox is illuminated at night and has become a frequent stopping point for beachgoers.

Visitors who return to Gwangalli with their delivered postcard can receive a small souvenir at the local tourist information center, a feature that has proven particularly effective in driving repeat visits.

Participation in the return-visit program grew by more than 50% last year, with overseas residents from countries including Taiwan, Canada, and France making return trips.

Local officials note that the postcard project has gradually expanded Gwangalli’s reach beyond Korea, while offering a low-key way to encourage longer-term engagement with the area.
