Gwangan Bridge will be opened to the public for a single day in May as the city hosts the nation’s largest walking festival.
According to the Kookje Shinmun, registration is now open for the 2026 Gwangan Bridge International Walking Festival, scheduled for May 10.
The annual event attracts more than 10,000 participants and marks its 14th edition this year.
The 2026 festival carries added significance, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the opening of Busan Port. Organizers say the event is designed to reflect the idea of walking together through Busan’s past, present, and future.
The date also coincides with the 80th anniversary of Pukyong National University and Voter’s Day, highlighting civic participation ahead of the June 3 local elections.
Starting from the outdoor plaza at BEXCO in Haeundae, participants will walk a 7.5 km course across the Gwangan Bridge deck and finish at Pukyong National University Stadium. The route offers panoramic ocean views and an opportunity to experience what organizers describe as Busan’s “urban wellness.”
Opening ceremonies and performances will take place at BEXCO, while the finish line will feature cultural shows, including K-pop performances and prize raffles.
Many families and overseas visitors return each year, drawn by the rare chance to walk across a bridge normally closed to pedestrians.
