Gyeongnam Province has been selected for seven sites in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s “2026 Accessible Tourism” program, the highest number the province has achieved since the initiative began.

The national program aims to improve travel environments so that disabled travelers, older adults, and families with young children can visit major destinations without barriers.

Of the 30 total sites chosen nationwide, Gyeongnam accounted for seven across three cities and counties.

The selections include one location in Sancheong (Donguibogam Village), three in Geochang (Suseungdae Tourism Complex, Changpowon Garden, Anti-aging Healing Land), and three in Hapcheon (Jeongyang Wetland Eco Park, Jeongyang Leisure Park, Hoeyang Tourism Site).

The province secured approximately 1.75 billion won in national funding for the projects.

The Accessible Tourism program focuses on upgrades such as walkways, ramps, rest facilities, and experience programs designed to serve a wider range of visitors.

Selected destinations will now undergo consulting with accessibility experts and disabled travelers to shape improvements suited to each site.

Since 2015 Gyeongnam has had 23 destinations selected for this program. The latest additions bring the total to 30, reinforcing the province’s push to establish itself as a leading region for barrier-free travel in Korea.
