Seomjingang Cultural Heritage Festival

(Hadong-gun)

The 9th Seomjingang Cultural Heritage Festival will take place from June 20 to 22 at Hadong Songnim Park and along the Seomjingang River, offering three days of immersive cultural programs and nature-based experiences designed to cool off the summer heat.

Held under the theme “Hadong, a Paradise! Seomjingang Heritage and Healing,” this year’s festival blends rest and entertainment, with performances, interactive activities, and riverside attractions for all ages.

The opening ceremony will feature the Hadong Art Troupe, a choir, and a gayageum performance, followed by concerts from invited singers Cheonrokdam (Lee Jeong) and Jeong Mi-ae.

Festivities will continue with a chicken-and-beer event, a group dance contest, healing busking sessions, and a marching band parade.

One of the festival’s signature events, Find the Golden Jaecheop, will be held five times during the festival.

A total of 25 golden clam models will be hidden for participants to find and exchange for real golden clams. The event takes place at 3 pm on June 20, and at 11 am and 3 pm on June 21 and 22.

Visitors can also try their hand at the Georangi Jaecheop Catching Experience, scheduled for 3:30 pm on the 20th and both 11:30 am and 3:30 pm on the 21st and 22nd. These clams are part of Hadong’s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage.

A total of 15 experience programs are offered, including river-themed activities such as a silver carp catching area, a Seomjingang treasure hunt, traditional Yut Nori games, a riverside painting corner, water gun battles, a forest library, and cultural quizzes.

Food and market zones will feature local delicacies, specialty products, food trucks, and youth-run booths, while evenings will be lit up by a music fountain and laser show at Harmony Park.

New additions like the marching band, silver fish catching ground, and painting sessions along the river are expected to provide moments of fun, healing, and connection with nature and local culture.
