The Hadong Hwagae Market Cherry Blossom Festival will return from March 27 to 29, marking the 27th edition of one of the region’s best known spring events.
The festival will take place at Green Narae Park in Hwagae-myeon and along the nearby Sipri Cherry Blossom Road, a popular destination for spring visitors.
The three day event will center on the famous cherry blossom lined road, offering performances and cultural programs designed to celebrate the arrival of spring. This year’s festival is expected to draw particular attention after the event was canceled last year due to wildfire damage in the area.
Festivities will begin with an opening ceremony and celebratory performance at 6 p.m. on March 27. The following day will feature a cherry blossom singing contest and a DJ music festival, while the final day will include a youth dance competition.
Additional activities will include a flea market, tea tasting programs, and themed food booths, creating a mix of cultural events and seasonal experiences along the blossom lined streets.
One of the most talked about programs this year is the Cherry Blossom Wedding Road Photo Zone. The event allows selected participants to take professional photographs along the blossom route. More than 200 teams applied in advance, with 20 groups chosen to participate in the photo sessions scheduled for March 28 and 29.
To reduce traffic congestion during the busy blossom season, local officials will introduce temporary traffic controls. Sections of Hwagae-myeon, including the area between Hwagae Middle School and Dongrim Motel, will operate as car free streets on March 28 and 29, as well as the following weekend of April 4 and 5.
The Hadong Hwagae Market Cherry Blossom Festival has long been one of the county’s signature spring events, attracting large numbers of visitors each year during the peak bloom period and contributing to local tourism and the regional economy.
