Seoul’s Han River swimming pools are proving just as popular after sunset as they are during the day, with thousands of residents and visitors taking advantage of extended evening hours to escape the summer heat.

Since July 3, the Ttukseom and Yeouido swimming pools, along with the Jamsil and Nanji water parks, have been open daily from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. through August 30, offering a cooler alternative to daytime swimming. Night operations are not available at the Gwangnaru and Yanghwa water parks.

Nearly 150,000 visitors have used the Han River pools and water parks since the season opened on June 19.

Ttukseom welcomed more than 50,800 visitors, up 29% from last year, while Yeouido recorded over 49,000 visitors, a 37% increase.

To enhance the summer experience, Seoul will introduce a series of special events throughout July and August.

Weekend “ice bath” pools will debut at Ttukseom and Yeouido beginning July 18, while live busking performances will take place on select Friday evenings.

Additional highlights include a waterside music festival at Nanji in early August and traditional tightrope performances and cultural activities at Jamsil.

The city has also strengthened safety measures by installing 136 AI-assisted CCTV cameras across six swimming facilities to monitor potential hazards in real time.

Water quality is checked daily and undergoes weekly laboratory testing, with all pools meeting national safety standards following a complete filtration system upgrade completed over the past four years.

Night swimming sessions continue through August 30, with admission ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 won, depending on the facility and visitor age.

Children under six are admitted free, and a single ticket allows all-day access.
