One of Seoul’s most popular outdoor festivals will return this week as the Han River Triathlon Festival takes place from June 5 to 7 at Ttukseom and Jamsil Hangang Parks.
Unlike traditional triathlons that focus on speed and competition, the festival emphasizes participation, personal achievement, and enjoying the Han River at a relaxed pace.
Participants can choose from beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses featuring swimming, cycling, and running. Organizers have also introduced a new 22-kilometer intermediate course this year.
Participants who complete each discipline will receive a medal, with all three medals combining to form a commemorative keepsake. Public bicycles will be available on-site, allowing visitors to participate even if they do not own a bike.
The festival will also feature a wide range of activities beyond the race courses. A giant floating playground on the Han River will offer inflatable attractions and water activities, while food zones will serve popular Korean favorites including Han River-style instant noodles and fried chicken.
Visitors can also enjoy traditional cultural experiences, family-friendly games, sports clinics, wellness programs, and interactive events throughout the festival grounds.
The opening ceremony on June 5 will include a drone light show above the Han River, along with live music and cultural performances. Celebrity-led fitness classes will be held during the festival, giving visitors additional opportunities to get active.
Safety remains a major focus for organizers. More than 1,000 staff members will be deployed daily, while water quality testing has confirmed that all swimming areas meet international competition standards. Real-time crowd monitoring systems will also be used throughout the event.
The festival attracted approximately 650,000 visitors last year and is expected to once again be one of Seoul’s largest outdoor events of the summer season.
