Changwon City will host the 2026 Jindong Firefall Festival on May 24 at Gwangam Port in Jindong-myeon, Masanhappo District, featuring a modern take on Korea’s traditional Nakhwa Nori fire display.

The festival reinterprets the traditional fire performance by combining it with the coastal setting of Gwangam Port, creating a large-scale firefall display over the water.

The event will begin with an opening ceremony at 7:30 p.m., followed by traditional ritual programs and the main firefall performance.

A special wish-making event will also be held on the day of the festival. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., organizers will accept 300 handwritten wish cards on a first-come, first-served basis at the festival site. The submitted wishes will later be burned as part of the firefall lighting ceremony.

This year’s festival will stage the firefall display directly over the waters of Gwangam Port, with organizers saying the ocean setting is expected to create a more dramatic and multi-dimensional nighttime spectacle.

The annual event blends traditional Korean fire rituals with a waterfront backdrop, offering visitors a distinctive seasonal festival experience in Changwon.
