Jinju City has begun redevelopment of the old pier area at Jinyangho Lake, launching a project to transform the aging site into a new multi-purpose cultural space and tourism hub for the region.
The project includes the demolition of deteriorating buildings that once served as restaurants and visitor facilities near the lake.
The structures, built in the early 1970s, are more than 50 years old and were recently given a Grade D safety rating, indicating serious structural defects and the need for urgent repairs or restrictions on use. City officials said demolition was necessary to ensure public safety and improve the surrounding landscape.
Once cleared, the site will be redeveloped into a music-themed healing and cultural complex that blends Jinyangho’s scenic natural environment with new cultural attractions.
Planned features include outdoor performance areas, viewing and relaxation spaces, cultural experience zones, and improved eco-friendly facilities and visitor pathways.
The project is part of the broader “Jinyangho Renaissance” initiative, aimed at revitalizing the lake as a major tourism destination in southern Gyeongsangnam-do.
The redevelopment is backed by 19 billion won in funding and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
