Korail has announced that reservations for 2026 Lunar New Year train tickets will open from January 15, ahead of the holiday travel season.
This year’s Seollal falls on February 17, with the holiday period running from February 14 to 18.
Tickets available during this reservation window apply to trains operating from February 13 to 18.
Reservations can be made through the Korail Talk mobile app or the official website. To ease traffic and improve access, Korail has extended the nationwide reservation period from two days to three and doubled its web server capacity.
Priority bookings for transportation vulnerable passengers will take place first on January 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eligible groups include seniors aged 65 and older, registered persons with disabilities, and national merit recipients eligible for transportation support.
On January 15, reservations will open for the Gyeongbu, Gyeongjeon, Gyeongbuk, Daegu, Chungbuk, Jungbu Inland, Donghae, and suburban lines. On January 16, bookings will open for the Honam, Jeolla, Gangneung, Janghang, Jungang, Yeongdong, Taebaek, Seohae, Gyeongchun, and Mokpo Boseong lines. Passengers unfamiliar with online booking can also reserve by phone through the dedicated holiday hotline at 1544 8545.
General reservations for all passengers, including priority groups, will run from January 19 to 21 between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
On January 19, reservations will be available for the Honam, Jeolla, Janghang, Jungang, Seohae, and Mokpo Boseong lines. On January 20, bookings open for the Gyeongjeon, Gyeongbuk, Daegu, Chungbuk, Jungbu Inland, Donghae, Gangneung, Yeongdong, Taebaek, Gyeongchun, and suburban lines.
On January 21, reservations for the Gyeongbu Line will be available. Unlike previous years, Korail will open reservations for the Gyeongbu Line last instead of first.
Ticket payments can be completed from midnight on January 22. Priority reservation tickets must be paid for by January 28, while general reservation tickets must be paid for by January 25. Unpaid tickets will be automatically canceled.
