The Boryeong Mud Festival, which attracts millions of tourists every year, will be replaced with an online event this year to reduce the spread of infection of Covid-19, officials announced.

The 10-day festival was scheduled to open July 17 at Daecheon Beach, known for its high nutrient sea mud that is said to have health benefits for the skin.

Following the South Korea’s Central Government recommendation, Boryeong City decided to cancel the major events of the festival,s such as performance and mud-related hands-on activities. Other big festivals like the Geryong World Military Culture Expo been canceled or postponed.

The city plans to offer a virtual mud-experience and a mud-related selfie event as an alternative sometime between July and August, according to officials.
