Korea’s Hapcheon redesignates eight scenic spots to reflect its evolving tourism identity

Hapcheon County has reselected eight key scenic spots to better align with changing tourism trends and highlight the county’s distinct natural and cultural identity.

The new selection follows consultations with residents and recommendations from the County Administration Coordination Committee, focusing on locations that best represent Hapcheon’s landscape and heritage. The county emphasized that the updated list aims to strengthen its residential tourism base, reflecting diverse visitor interests by season, theme, and age group.

Among the sites, Hambyeoknu Pavilion and Hwanggye Falls, long cherished as symbols of local life and culture, were initially omitted from the shortlist, prompting concern that Hapcheon’s historical and emotional landmarks might be overlooked.

To preserve the county’s identity, which harmonizes nature and culture, the two sites were reinstated as part of the final eight.

The newly designated Eight Scenic Views of Hapcheon are:

Gayasan Mountain and Haeinsa Temple Sorigil and Hongryudong Valley Hwangmaesan Mountain Four Seasons Hapcheon Lake and Baekri Cherry Blossom Road Hwanggye Falls and Hapcheon Video Theme Park Hapcheon Meteorite Impact Crater Okjeon Tombs Hambyeoknu Pavilion and Jeongyang Swamp Ecological Park

Through these selections, Hapcheon County seeks to reaffirm its reputation as a destination where history, ecology, and culture coexist, while expanding its appeal to both local residents and visitors seeking immersive travel experiences.
