Jinju City announced that the 129th Jinju National Folk Ox Fighting Competition will be held through October 12 at the Jinju Folk Ox Fighting Stadium, hosted by the Jinju Ox Fighting Association.
With roots dating back to 1897, the Jinju Ox Fighting Competition is one of Korea’s oldest folk traditions and a key attraction during the Jinju October Festival, drawing both locals and tourists each year to witness the powerful contests between champion bulls.
This year’s event will feature around 160 elite oxen from across the nation — including Jinju, Cheongdo, and Uiryeong — competing across three weight divisions: Baekdu, Hangang, and Taebaek. Spectators can look forward to thrilling sand battles showcasing the strength and spirit of these traditional fighting oxen.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the competition will also include live performances by guest singers such as Sergio and Jingukie, along with local artists. Visitors will have the chance to win various prizes, including a golden calf trophy worth three don and bicycles, as well as enjoy other on-site events and entertainment throughout the five-day celebration.
