Korea Destinations: Discover Miryang’s blooming lotus fields this summer

If you’re looking for a peaceful summer escape in Korea, the Miryang Lotus Complex is now at its seasonal best, with thousands of lotus flowers in full bloom throughout July and August.

Located in Gasan-ri, Bubuk-myeon, the 62,000-square-meter lotus park has become one of Miryang’s signature summer attractions since opening in 2009.

Wooden boardwalks and walking trails wind through expansive lotus ponds, making it an ideal destination for families, photographers, and anyone seeking a relaxing nature walk.

The best time to visit is between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., when the lotus flowers are fully open. As the day warms, the blossoms gradually close, making the early morning hours the most rewarding time to experience the fields in their full beauty.

Beyond the scenery, the wetlands also provide habitat for a variety of aquatic plants and wildlife, offering opportunities for nature observation and environmental learning.

Visitors can easily combine a trip to the lotus fields with the 26th Miryang Performing Arts Festival, taking place nearby at Miryang Arina from July 21 to August 1, creating an enjoyable day of both nature and culture.

Later in the year, after the blooming season ends, the site will host a lotus root harvesting experience in late October, giving visitors another reason to return in a different season.
