On March 1, 1919, Koreans proclaimed independence through peaceful demonstrations nationwide, known as the March 1st Movement. Japanese forces brutally suppressed the protests, killing thousands and arresting tens of thousands. Yet the movement became a turning point, leading to the establishment of the Provisional Government of Korea in Shanghai and inspiring the spirit of resistance. Today, March 1st is observed as Samiljeol, a national holiday honoring those who fought for freedom.

Yeoksa means history in English. Naneun yeoksa-reul gieok-hal geoya
(나는 역사를 기억할 거야) means “I will rememver the history” in Hangul.
