Seoul City has announced the opening of Landscape Dream, a new media art exhibition by artist Kim Anna, on display from October 1 to December 31 at the Seoul Forest Media Wall in the first-floor lobby of Seoul City Hall.
This exhibition reinterprets the aesthetics of the late Joseon painter Gyeomjae Jeong Seon’s true-view landscape paintings through cutting-edge digital and augmented reality (AR) technology, creating a “mixed-reality landscape” that bridges past and present within the heart of the city.
Visitors can scan on-site QR codes to activate AR features that bring endangered animals, such as musk deer, lynx, cranes, otters, and owls into view. Through this interactive digital encounter, audiences can experience the coexistence of humans and nature while reflecting on the fading memory of the natural world.
The title Landscape Dream merges the traditional concept of sansuhwa (landscape painting) with the poetic notion of “dream,” symbolizing a space where reality, memory, and imagination overlap. Using AR and mixed-reality (MR) elements, the exhibition transforms the City Hall lobby into a serene, immersive environment where nature and technology converge.
Artist Kim Anna, currently a professor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, explores the relationship between humans and the environment through digital storytelling and simulation. Her past exhibitions include Digital Resonance (Gwangju Media Art Platform, 2022), Unfold X (Seoul Convergence Art Festival, 2022), and Sustainable Museum: Art and Environment (Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, 2021).
The Seoul Forest Media Wall, established in April 2024 as part of City Hall’s lobby renovation, serves as a public digital art platform.
It features vertical gardens, a robot café, and interactive content, creating a relaxing cultural space for citizens.
