Ever been surrounded by snow seven months out of the year? If so, you may be in Alaska, where winters are harsh and temperatures reach as low as 60 below.

Seeing how the snow doesn't begin to melt until mid April, It is a great place for people wanting to participate in winter sports, such as skiing and snowboarding. Not to mention, it’s a perfect place to catch wildlife in its own natural habitat. But what about those folks who want to relax in a warm, cozy atmosphere? Chena Hot Springs is a great place to start.

Chena Hot Springs is a beautiful year-round resort known for its healing mineral waters of its natural outdoor hot springs, which you can soak in while viewing the Northern Lights. It also has a massage parlor, indoor pool and outdoor hot tub. Guests can take nature walks year round in this remote woodsy area full of wildlife.  There also is a bar made out of ice, and an ice museum.

“My favorite part about Chena was probably the ice museum,” said Louise Leath, a recent visitor. “Everything in there is just amazing.”

While some say it’s the activities that are the highlight at Chena, others say it’s the atmosphere. The Northern Lights, or the Aurora Borealis, is a big thing here in Alaska. They’re green gases that sway in the sky as if they were dancing. It is a beautiful sight to see, and Chena is one the best places to take it in.

“The whole thing is just relaxing, I love going there. The lights, the hot springs, the wildlife. They all equal amazing,” said Jerome Ransom, another guest that visited.

There are log cabins to accommodate guests, although you don’t have to spend the night to visit Chena Hot Springs. It’s a great place for a day trip. But if you do plan on staying, Chena takes reservations and has many options available.

Located 60 miles from Fairbanks, Chena has been pleasing visitors for more than 100 years. It’s a great place to melt away the winter, and spring into summer.
