Miryang City announced that 19,521 tourists visited the city last year through the “Rail Travel for Local Love” initiative, a joint project carried out in partnership with the KORAIL.
The program is designed to revitalize tourism in population-declining regions by encouraging rail travel and generating local demand. Under the nationwide initiative, 42 local governments participated, with Miryang ranking second in the country in terms of total visitors attracted through the program.
City officials attribute the strong turnout to Miryang’s well-known attractions, including Yeongnamnu Pavilion and Pyochungsa Temple, combined with practical travel incentives. Visitors who purchase Miryang rail travel packages receive a mobile coupon equivalent to 50 percent of their train fare after verifying their visit to designated tourist sites via QR code.
To further encourage local spending, travelers who spend more than 30,000 won within the city and verify their receipts at the Miryang Station Tourist Information Center receive a 10,000 won Miryang Love Gift Certificate. The initiative is designed not only to increase arrivals but also to promote longer stays and greater local consumption.
Building on last year’s performance, Miryang plans to continue expanding the program in 2026. The city will maintain its popular “Half-Price Miryang Travel” campaign to ease the cost burden for visitors and attract a broader audience.
In addition, officials plan to strengthen connections between rail travel packages and major seasonal festivals such as the Miryang Arirang Festival, the Water Festival, and the Alien Festival.
