Upon returning from my deployment to Afghanistan, I found myself feeling unsettled. I had taken 30 days of leave at home (in Joplin, Missouri) and although it was nice to be around family and friends, it was busy, busy, busy. It was no different once I returned to my duty station in Japan.

I decided one day (on a whim) that I wanted/NEEDED to take a trip to a remote location... somewhere on a beach and far away from any thoughts of danger, timelines, work, or stress.

And that’s when I chose Bali, Indonesia.

I had heard of Bali, but I didn’t know anything about it. I got on the Internet and immediately began searching for sights to see and things to do in Bali. The pictures of the beaches alone had me hooked. I KNEW that’s where I needed to be.

Bali for me not only became a vacation, it became my safe haven. The five days and six nights I spent there were not enough overall, but it’s amazing what my visit did to rejuvenate my spirit.

I met people from all over the world (Denmark, London, Australia), hung out on the beach and drank, zipped through traffic on a scooter, ran in to Snoop and Justin Beiber at a nightclub, and even managed to score a ticket to Snoop’s Bikini Beach Party concert the next day!

I had a list of things I wanted to do while I was in Bali and I did not accomplish a single one. But I’m okay with that because 1) now I have an “excuse” to go back, and 2) because I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE!

If you’re looking for paradise, look no further than Bali.
