The 21st Namhae Garlic & Korean Beef Festival will take place from June 11 to 14 at the Namhae Exile Literature Museum grounds, showcasing two of the county’s most famous agricultural products.
Held under the theme “Namhae, the Nation’s Place to Relax,” this year’s festival will highlight the rich flavors of Namhae garlic and premium local Korean beef through food experiences, cultural performances, and family-friendly activities.
Originally created as a celebration for local farmers following the busy planting season, the festival has grown into one of Namhae’s signature events, attracting visitors from across the country.
Festivalgoers will have the opportunity to sample and purchase Namhae garlic, known for its strong aroma and nutritional value thanks to the region’s sea breeze climate, along with locally raised Korean beef renowned for its rich flavor and tender texture.
One of the festival’s most popular attractions, the Korean beef barbecue zone, has been expanded to nearly double its previous size, allowing more visitors to enjoy local beef at affordable prices.
A separate pork barbecue area will also be available.
The garlic sales area has been relocated to the center of the main plaza and will feature a large tent for improved visitor comfort. Free shipping services will also be offered for on-site purchases.
Inside the Namhae Exile Literature Museum, a special exhibition space will introduce visitors to the history, culture, garlic, and agricultural traditions of Namhae through interactive displays and experiences.
The official opening ceremony on June 12 will feature a special performance titled “Connection and Gratitude, The Story of Namhae,” celebrating the history of both Namhae and the festival through music and performance.
A variety of stage events are scheduled throughout the four-day festival, including local talent competitions, cultural performances, fireworks, youth programs, busking performances, music concerts, and a community singing contest.
Daily agricultural auctions at 3 p.m. will give visitors the chance to purchase local products at special prices, while a family zone on the museum lawn will offer VR experiences, busking performances, and activities for children.
As part of its sustainability efforts, the festival will use reusable eco-friendly tableware in food areas to reduce waste and limit the use of disposable products.
To accommodate visitors, Namhae County will operate five parking areas and provide shuttle bus services at approximately 15-minute intervals.
Organizers advise visitors to consider public transportation during peak weekend periods due to expected traffic congestion.
