Nodeul Island has opened several new waterfront spaces designed to bring visitors closer to the Han River while providing more room for walking, relaxing and family activities.

Opened on September 18, the redesigned area includes an ecological garden, children’s play gardens, grass and hydrangea gardens and a renovated 1.5-kilometer loop trail for walking and running.

A former parking and waste area has been transformed into a nature-based Play Garden featuring grassy hills, logs and natural stone. The Ecological Garden offers seating overlooking the river and sunset, while new riverside paths and benches provide additional places to relax along the water.

The redevelopment also includes Atelier Nodeul beneath the southern end of Hangang Bridge, where media art combining light and video is displayed in the evening.

Weekend activities are planned throughout the fall. Saturdays feature a pop-up riverside library, while Sundays offer picnic mats and board games. Busking performances, food trucks and an outdoor children’s play program will also be available on selected dates.

From October 2 to 11, Nodeul Island will host the Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival, featuring laser art and other large-scale media installations.

The new waterfront is the first stage of a broader transformation of Nodeul Island. A floating garden is scheduled for completion in December 2027, followed by the Sky Art Garden in 2030, creating additional cultural and recreational spaces above and along the Han River.
