A growing number of runners are heading to Busan’s North Port Waterfront Park, turning the redeveloped harbor district into one of the city’s newest outdoor fitness hotspots.

While locations such as Haeundae, Gwangalli and Dadaepo have long been popular among local runners, North Port has carved out its own appeal thanks to its wide waterfront promenades, open harbor views and convenient access from Busan Station.

The area offers a relatively traffic-free environment where runners can enjoy the city skyline and sea breeze, particularly after sunset.

The popularity of recreational running has continued to rise nationwide as more people look for simple, low-cost ways to stay active.

Social media has also played a role, with runners regularly sharing routes, achievements and group activities online, helping build a strong running community across Busan.

Recognizing the trend, local agencies have begun introducing programs aimed at both beginners and experienced runners.

The Busan Facilities Corporation recently announced a regular evening running class at North Port Waterfront Park beginning on the 26th, offering participants professional coaching and guided group runs against the backdrop of the harbor’s nighttime scenery.

The program follows a successful trial session that attracted strong interest from residents.

The city has also expanded community running activities in other parts of the city, including routes along the Suyeong River and Dadaepo Beach.
