Tongyeong’s Samdosugun Tongjeyeong has been transformed into a nighttime media art experience, using projection mapping, lasers and light installations to explore 400 years of the city’s history.
The 2026 National Heritage Media Art event is underway through October 11 under the theme “The Flourishing of Tongjeyeong and the Age of Light.”
Visitors follow an approximately 80-minute route through eight areas of the historic complex, including Mangillu, Jigwamun, the 12 Workshops and Sebyeonggwan National Treasure.
One of the main attractions is an 11-minute projection mapping show across the front of Sebyeonggwan. The presentation moves from Tongyeong’s naval history and the work of craftsmen who produced weapons to traditional crafts including mother-of-pearl lacquerware, gat hats, wooden furniture, trays and fans.
The event draws heavily on the history of Tongjeyeong’s 12 Workshops, where skilled artisans produced goods for the naval headquarters and helped establish the city’s long craft tradition.
The event runs every night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
