Gimhae’s new Sangdong Forest Campground is set to officially open in October following a trial period with local residents.

The campground has been developed on approximately 1.5 hectares of a 37-hectare public forest in Mukbang-ri, Sangdong-myeon. It includes 35 vehicle camping sites along with showers, restrooms, washing facilities, an information center and a lawn area.

Visitors will also have access to forest education and recreational programs. During the trial period, children’s forest programs are being offered Tuesday through Friday at 4 p.m., while family programs take place Saturdays at 3 p.m. A woodworking experience in cooperation with the Gimhae Wood Culture Museum is also scheduled for September 12.

Gimhae is separately developing an accessible forest trail next to the campground and children’s forest experience center. The 1 billion won project is expected to complete its detailed design this month, with the trail scheduled to open next year.

The city plans to gradually add more forest recreation and wellness facilities in the surrounding area, eventually developing the site into a larger forest recreation complex.

The campground underwent an initial trial with city employees in August and is currently being tested by members of the public ahead of its October opening.
