Seoul Botanic Park hosts Rose of Sharon Exhibition through Aug. 18

Seoul Botanic Park will host a Rose of Sharon (Mugunghwa) Exhibition though August 18 to mark the 81st anniversary of Korea’s Liberation Day.
The free exhibition will feature 6,086 Rose of Sharon trees representing a variety of cultivars, along with 58 potted and bonsai specimens selected for their distinctive form.
A highlight of this year’s exhibition is the public debut of a propagated successor to the historic Rose of Sharon tree that once stood at Gyeongbok High School.
The original tree, which was more than 80 years old and designated one of Jongno-gu’s “Beautiful Trees,” died in 2025.
Seoul Botanic Park successfully preserved its genetic lineage using plant conservation techniques and has cultivated a new generation from the original tree.
Visitors can also explore a photo exhibition explaining the different Rose of Sharon varieties. Family programs introducing the flower’s structure and classification will be offered on select Saturdays throughout August.
The exhibition will be held in the park’s Open Forest Mugunghwa Garden, with free admission for all visitors.
