Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to grant conditional approval for the proposed “BTS 2026 Comeback Show @ Seoul” at Gwanghwamun Plaza, citing the need to prioritize public safety and minimize disruption in the city center.
The city said final permission will be issued once the event’s safety management plan passes formal review and key measures are strengthened, including preventing overlap between performer and audience exit times and reducing traffic congestion.
The show is expected to draw large crowds, as it would mark BTS’s first stage performance for their new album, ARIRANG, following a 3 year and 9 month hiatus. Organizers have also reportedly submitted requests to the Korea Heritage Service regarding the use of surrounding areas such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwanghwamun, and the vicinity of Sungnyemun.
With major crowds anticipated across downtown Seoul, the city plans to closely review safety protocols and coordinate with relevant agencies, including police and Jongno District, to ensure secure crowd control and smooth operations.
Seoul also plans pre event inspections aimed at preventing inconvenience for both residents and visitors, including monitoring traffic conditions and cracking down on unfair practices such as unreasonable accommodation pricing. Inspections will focus on areas near Gwanghwamun Plaza, particularly in Jongno and Jung Districts.
On the day of the event, the city is also preparing additional experiences for both local fans and international visitors, including BTS’s global fanbase, ARMY, with programs combining K pop and Korean culture across the city.
