Seoul has opened a new free, publicly accessible shower facility at Yeouido Hangang Park, giving runners, cyclists, and morning commuters a convenient place to wash up after exercising along the Han River.

Located on the first floor of the park’s information center, the new “open-access shower room” is available daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. (closed for cleaning from 4–5 p.m.).

Users enter through a Naver QR verification system, which also supports safety monitoring and controlled access.

The facility includes five private shower booths each for men and women, 13 personal lockers, and two changing rooms.

Emergency safety features such as CCTV, security alarms, emergency call buttons, and illegal-camera detection devices have also been installed. Pressing an emergency button immediately alerts on-site staff through the control monitor.

To further strengthen safety, the city has signed an agreement with the Yeongdeungpo Police Station to conduct monthly inspections of the shower facility and nearby public restrooms, with additional joint checks during major events such as the cherry blossom festival and the Seoul International Fireworks Festival.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government will directly manage all operations, including user reception, hygiene and cleaning, on-site guidance, and first-response procedures in emergencies.

Visitors are also asked to follow basic courtesy and safety rules when using the shared space, such as limiting showers to 20 minutes and tidying the area afterward.

City officials say the project is part of ongoing efforts to improve comfort and accessibility for residents who use the Han River parks for daily fitness and recreation.
