Seoul Grand Park has completed a range of maintenance and landscaping projects as it prepares to welcome visitors for the spring season.
Park officials recently carried out large-scale tree cleaning operations to remove fine dust and pollutants that accumulated over the winter. A total of 1,067 trees, including cherry trees and zelkovas along the park’s popular Elephant Train route, were washed to improve growing conditions and help trees recover ahead of the spring blooming season.
Spring flower planting is also underway throughout the park.
Around 11,000 seasonal flowers, including tulips, daffodils, and daisies, have been planted along major walking paths, the botanical garden’s outdoor areas, and themed gardens. Additional flower seeds, such as poppies and purple rapeseed, have also been sown, with blooms expected to reach their peak between April and May.
The park is also expanding its “Attractive Garden” project, which began in 2021. This year, 44 garden spaces will be created around the zoo area, including small landscaped gardens and citizen-participation gardens where visitors can help design and display plant arrangements.
Tree maintenance work has also been carried out across the zoo area to remove damaged branches and hazardous trees. Some of the trimmed branches and wood are being reused as enrichment materials for animals in outdoor enclosures, helping encourage natural behavior and reduce stress.
In addition, playground facilities are being prepared for the new season. Three children’s sand playgrounds have undergone ozone-water sterilization and high-pressure cleaning to remove harmful substances that may have accumulated during winter.
