Seoul is introducing a new recreational sports facility along the Han River, with pickleball courts at Gwangnaru Hangang Park, which opened to the public on April 16.

The city expects the space to become a popular hub for casual sports and outdoor leisure.

The newly built complex features 14 courts dedicated to pickleball, a fast-growing racket sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis.

Known for being easy to learn and accessible to all age groups, pickleball has seen a surge in global popularity in recent years.

Designed as a community-friendly space, the courts aim to accommodate everyone from beginners to regular players, offering a social and active way to enjoy time by the river. The large-scale layout is expected to ease congestion and improve accessibility for users.

Following a well-attended opening ceremony on March 29, the city completed final preparations, including operator selection and system testing, ahead of the official launch. Officials say the reservation platform and on-site operations have been thoroughly reviewed to ensure a smooth user experience.

To enhance comfort and safety, the facility includes shaded seating areas, benches, drinking fountains, and safety fencing around the courts, creating a more user-friendly environment for visitors.

Court reservations can be made through the Seoul Public Service Reservation System website on a first-come, first-served basis. Detailed booking schedules and usage guidelines are available online.
