The Seoul History Museum will offer a wide range of educational and cultural programs for children and families during the summer vacation period, with activities taking place at the main museum and its affiliated branches throughout July and August.

The seasonal lineup includes history workshops, hands-on activities, online classes, exhibitions, concerts, and free cultural events designed to help visitors explore Seoul’s history in interactive ways.

At the main museum, children can participate in “Journey to Hanyang with a Hat,” a program introducing the book rental shops of the Joseon era and the popular novels of the time. Participants will also create character hats inspired by the museum’s children’s exhibits. The program runs from July 29 to August 15, with registration opening July 21.

Several branch museums will also host themed programs.

The Gongpyeong Historic Sites Museum will offer an online Zoom program titled “Solve the Case: The King’s Stolen Treasure,” where children investigate a fictional mystery while learning about the Joseon Dynasty’s Uigeumbu, the royal investigative bureau. Classes run from July 22 through August 20, with registration beginning July 6.

The Seoul Museum of Life History will present “Mom and Dad’s Summer Vacation Memories,” encouraging families to explore the school vacation workbooks once used by previous generations while sharing childhood experiences. The program will be held from July 29 to 31 and August 5 to 7.

The Cheonggyecheon Museum will host “Exploring the Markets of Cheonggyecheon,” a family program tracing the history of the markets that developed along the stream from the Joseon period to modern Seoul. Sessions run from July 29 through August 13.

In addition to educational programs, the museum will open two special exhibitions this summer. “Protecting the Capital Together” opens July 14 and examines the defensive history of Hanyang’s city walls during the reigns of Kings Sukjong and Yeongjo. A second exhibition, “A Grand Tour of Seoul Urban Planning,” opens August 14 and explores the city’s first comprehensive urban development plans.

Visitors can also enjoy several free cultural events throughout the season, including a museum concert featuring traditional pipa music on August 1, a musical gala performance on Liberation Day, August 15, and barrier-free film screenings of It’s Okay!, on July 23, and Minari on August 27.
