Cheonggyecheon Stream is beginning a new chapter, this time, in light.
To mark the 20th anniversary of its restoration, the city will host the Cheonggyecheon Night Illumination Ceremony on October 30 at 6 p.m. near Ogan Bridge, transforming the downtown stream into a vibrant nighttime destination filled with art, fashion, and light.
Under the theme “Cheonggyecheon: A New 20 Years Illuminated by Light,” the event will open with a grand lighting performance, followed by a media art show and a special runway presentation by six up-and-coming designers from the Dongdaemun fashion district.
The expanded 55-meter white runway over Ogan Bridge will set the stage for a visual spectacle titled “Starry Night,” symbolizing Seoul’s creative energy and the fusion of fashion and urban culture.
The illumination project, spanning from Cheonggye Plaza to Ogan Bridge, will continue through 2027, gradually lighting up 3 kilometers of the stream with themed installations.
The first section, from Ogan Bridge to Narae Bridge, will feature a natural garden, five “media poles” casting beams into the night sky, and immersive media art projected beneath the bridge, showcasing the coexistence of nature and city life.
Visitors can walk along softly lit pathways reflecting off the water, creating a poetic journey through “Cheonggyecheon by Night.”
The city plans to extend the project into a year-round nighttime cultural route connecting Cheonggyecheon, DDP, and Dongdaemun.
