Taehwagang Station is being repositioned as a key transportation gateway in Ulsan as the city prepares for the arrival of its future tram network.

Ulsan City held a completion ceremony for the Taehwagang Station Phase 2 traffic system improvement project on January 20 at 3:00 pm at Taehwagang Station.

The project was launched in 2023 to strengthen Taehwagang Station’s role as a central mobility hub, especially as it is set to become the terminus of Tram Line 1. The city invested 5.5 billion won, fully funded by Ulsan, to upgrade the surrounding traffic infrastructure.

Key improvements include reorganizing internal station roads into a one-way system measuring 220 meters long and 30 meters wide, replacing the previous two-way access from San-eop-ro. This change is expected to improve traffic flow and increase road capacity.

Ulsan also built new bus platforms and a pedestrian overpass, helping passengers reach rail services more easily and making transfers between public transport options smoother.

Construction began in December 2024 and was completed without shutting down station operations, with the city crediting public cooperation and careful project management.

Ulsan City says the upgrades will support better connections between future trams and existing modes of transport such as buses, taxis, and private vehicles, creating a more comfortable and efficient travel experience across the city.
