Miryang will bring together Korea’s three best-known Arirang traditions for the 2026 Three Great Arirang Festival from September 11 to 13.
The three-day event will take place around the outdoor performance area at Sammun Riverside Park along the Miryang River, featuring performances representing the Miryang, Jeongseon and Jindo Arirang traditions.
On September 12, groups from around Korea will participate in a Korean Peninsula Arirang performance, followed by traditional percussion and an evening program marking the second anniversary of Miryang Arirang’s designation as a Gyeongnam Intangible Cultural Heritage.
This year also marks 100 years since Miryang Arirang became the first of Korea’s three major Arirangs to be recorded on a gramophone record in 1926.
The final day will feature performances by the Miryang Arirang Preservation Society, local artists and winners of an international Miryang Arirang competition held in Kyoto earlier this year. A joint performance featuring the Miryang, Jeongseon and Jindo traditions will close the festival.
An accompanying Arirang Art Market will run throughout the three days, including an exhibition and listening program featuring historic gramophones and cylinder, SP, EP and LP records from the Miryang Sound Museum collection.
