Tongyeong City will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, the 21st at 2 p.m. for the Tongyeong Port Ocean Viewcation Project, marking the official start of construction on a new waterfront landmark.

The event will take place near the Pencil Lighthouse area in Misu-dong.

The project is part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Southern Region Wide Area Tourism Development Plan established in 2023.

It aims to create a distinctive ocean view attraction where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Tongyeong Port both day and night while combining scenic walking routes with elements of thrill and adventure.

Key features include a 128 meter pedestrian bridge connecting Docheon dong and Misu dong, a 138 meter skywalk designed to offer a sense of height and excitement, a 100 meter arch shaped extreme climbing facility above the bridge, and elevators and stairways providing easy access from ground level.

Nighttime lighting will be developed in coordination with Tongyeong’s night tourism initiatives, with the goal of creating a new visual landmark along the harbor.

Preparatory work for the project began in early 2024 with feasibility studies and design planning, followed by the completion of marine use reviews and safety assessments.

Construction will begin shortly after the ceremony, with the project expected to enhance access to Tongyeong Port’s scenery and strengthen links to nearby cultural sites, restaurants, and historic attractions.
