The nighttime skyline along Yangsancheon is set for a major refresh as Yangsan City moves ahead with a lighting overhaul for Yeongdae Bridge and the nearby Sky Bridge.

Aging fixtures will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lighting, while Yeongdae Bridge will also receive a new media façade capable of dynamic visual displays.

The city announced that the project, valued at 2.5 billion won, will run through the end of March and aims to improve both aesthetics and pedestrian safety across the two landmark crossings.

At Yeongdae Bridge, which connects the Gangseo area and Yangsan New Town, about 1.5 billion won will go toward replacing outdated lights with LED fixtures designed to better harmonize with the riverside environment. A new media façade system will be installed on the bridge’s upper sculpture, allowing seasonal and thematic motion graphics. The city plans to begin with star-pattern imagery and expand the content over time.

An additional 1 billion won will be invested to modernize the lighting on the Sky Bridge, a pedestrian-only span linking Bukbu Sports Complex and Chunchu Park. The upgrade will highlight the bridge’s architectural form while improving nighttime brightness so visitors can cross more comfortably.

Both bridges were once popular night-view attractions, but declining accessibility and aging facilities led to a drop in visitors in recent years. The city hopes the renewed lighting will help revive the area and create another visual highlight for travelers during Yangsan’s “Year of Visit.”

The project is also expected to create synergy with nearby attractions including the Yangsancheon music fountain and Chunchu Park, which already draw visitors with night performances, water features, walking paths, and outdoor recreation spaces.

From January 12, partial traffic restrictions will be in place daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to ensure safe construction access during the upgrade period.
