Recent revelations have highlighted the challenges faced by Gimhae Airport, where 11 security incidents were reported between 2020 and September of this year.

The data, disclosed by Democratic Party lawmaker Choi In-ho of the National Assembly’s Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Committee on the 25th, unveiled significant concerns regarding the airport’s security measures.

Gimpo Airport recorded the highest number of security incidents at 19, with Jeju closely following with 14 cases and Gimhae with 11 incidents.

Of particular concern were 12 serious security breaches across various airports, where both live and blank ammunition went undetected.

Gimhae Airport accounted for one such case, further underscoring the need for improved security protocols.

Adding to the worries, the airport is grappling with staffing shortages, with a current active personnel count of 376, falling 14 short of the required 390.

This shortage amounts to a mere 96% of the necessary security workforce, indicating the pressing need for adequate staffing measures to ensure the safety and security of passengers and personnel at Gimhae Airport.
