The Korea chapter of the U.S. Armed Forces in Korea held a "Korea-U.S. Alliance Strengthening Conference and a dinner of encouragement for young U.S. soldiers in South Korea" at Camp Humphreys on Nov. 6.

The conference pushed the importance and meaning of the Korea-U.S. alliance and solidify the alliance with the younger generation who will lead the future.

• Under the auspices of Lee Seo-young (former U.S. National Defense Officer) of the Korea chapter of the U.S. Armed Forces in Korea, the event was held. with senior vice president Choi Byung-hyuk, reserve chief(Former Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command), general trevor J. Bredenkamp, Deputy Commander of the Eighth U.S. Army Operations.

More than 80 people, including key U.S. Eighth Army officials, attended the meeting. They listened to Hwang Joon-kook, former British Ambassador to the United States, Political Affairs Corporation of the United States's lecture on the importance of the Korea-U.S. alliance and Korea's security. During the Q&A session following the lecture, many U.S. soldiers continued their serious dialogue and discussions on the need to strengthen the alliance.

• The Korea-U.S. Alliance Strengthening Conference in the Korea chapter of the U.S. Armed Forces in Korea has been promoting the importance of the Korea-U.S. alliance at Camp Humphreys every year since 2018.

A similar event was held Nov. 19 at Osan Air Base for airmen new to the region.

• The Korean War Veterans Association (KDVA) is a non-profit organization that integrates not only U.S. veterans who fought in the Korean War, but also 3.5 million reservists and active soldiers who served in Korea after the armistice, as well as Korean and U.S. veterans and KATUSA reservists.

Since its founding in 2017, it has greatly contributed to further strengthening the Korea-U.S. alliance. Vincent Brooks, former commander of U.S. Forces Korea, chairs the USFK and promotes the sacrifice and honor of Korean War veterans and U.S. soldiers. Through conferences and education to strengthen the alliance, scholarship programs, seminars and forums to strengthen the alliance, and events to encourage soldiers, the U.S.-South Korea alliance is focused on further strengthening the alliance by spreading friendly forces in the U.S.

【주한미군 젊은 장병들 대상으로 한미동맹 강화 컨퍼런스 개최】

◦ 주한미군전우회 코리아챕터(KDVA-KR)는 11월 6일 오후 평택 캠프 험프리스(Camp Humphreys) 미군기지에서 “주한미군 젊은 장병들을 위한 한미동맹 강화 컨퍼런스(2020 KDVA Alliance Education Conference for Junior Service Members)”와 격려만찬을 개최하고 미래의 한미동맹을 이끌어 나갈 젊은 세대들과 함께 한미동맹의 중요성과 의미를 새기고 동맹을 공고히 하는 시간을 가졌다.

◦ 이번 행사는 주한미군전우회 코리아챕터의 이서영 회장(전 주미국방무관) 주관 하에 수석부회장 최병혁 예비역 대장(전 한미연합사 부사령관), 미8군 작전부사령관 브리든캠프(Trevor J. Bredenkamp) 장군과 미8군 주요직위자 및 주한미군 초급 장병 80여명이 참석한 가운데, 한미동맹의 중요성과 한국의 안보를 주제로 한 황준국 대사(전 주영대사, 주미정무공사)의 강연을 청취하였다. 강연에 이은 질의 및 답변 시간에는 많은 미군 장병들이 동맹 강화의 필요성에 대한 진지한 대화와 토의를 이어나가며, 적극적으로 동참함으로써 동맹의 중요성에 대한 젊은 미군장병들의 지대한 관심을 보여주었다.

◦ 주한미군전우회 코리아챕터의 한미동맹 강화 컨퍼런스는 미래의 한미동맹을 이어나갈 주한미군 초급장병들을 대상으로 2018년부터 매년 캠프 험프리스에서 한미동맹의 중요성을 고취시키는 활동으로 계속돼 왔으며, 이날 행사를 통해 얻어진 성과를 바탕으로 젊은 미군 장병들에게 동맹 강화 마인드를 더욱 확산시키기 위해 11월 19일에는 오산 미 공군기지에서 미 7공군사령관 플레어스(Pleus) 중장도 함께한 가운데 주한미 공군 초급장병들을 대상으로 한미동맹 강화 컨퍼런스를 이어갈 계획이다.

◦ 주한미군전우회(KDVA)는 한국전쟁에 참전했던 미군 참전용사들 뿐만 아니라, 휴전이후 한국에서 근무했던 350만 명의 주한미군 예비역 및 현역장병들, 한미연합사에서 근무했던 한미장병들과 카투사 예비역들을 모두 통합한 비영리단체로서, 2017년 창립 이후에 한미동맹을 더욱 공고히 하는데 크게 기여해왔다. 주한미군전우회는 전 한미연합사령관 빈센트 브룩스(Vincent Brooks) 예비역 대장이 회장을 맡고 있으며, 한국전 참전용사 및 주한미군 근무장병들의 희생과 명예를 선양하고, 동맹강화를 위한 컨퍼런스 및 교육, 장학사업, 한미동맹 강화를 위한 세미나와 포럼, 장병 격려행사 등을 통해 미국 내 친한파를 확산시킴으로써 한미동맹을 더욱 공고히 하는데 역점을 두고 있다.
