On September 7, 2024, the Brothers of the Lambda Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in collaboration with the Peninsula Basketball League, hosted the inaugural All-Star Basketball Game at the Collier Fitness Center located on Camp Humphreys. This event was held in support of Mental Health Awareness as part of Omega Psi Phi’s mandated Health Initiatives program.

With over 150 attendees, including servicemembers, DoD civilians, contractors, and family members, the event highlighted the chapter’s commitment to promoting mental health resources in the community. Several organizations were present, providing valuable mental health resources and information, including the Army Substance Abuse Program, USAG-Humphreys Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Objective Zero, Asana Counseling Center, and representatives from various Republic of Korea (RoK) Divine Nine fraternities and sororities.

Notably, two mental health professionals, Mr. Ronald Kincey from Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care, and Ms. Kimberly Durinick, CEO of Asana Counseling Center, offered insights into mental wellness during the event. Their expertise further emphasized the importance of mental health and the availability of local support.

Since its founding in 1977, the Lambda Xi Chapter has been actively supporting communities through scholarship programs, health initiatives, and social action activities. This event represents another way in which the chapter strives to make a positive impact. As the chapter notes, “If we are able to make a positive impact on even one individual by providing mental health resources and information, we will have achieved our mission.”

In addition to mental health awareness, the Lambda Xi Chapter also promoted several other fraternity initiatives during the event, including the “Brother, You’re on My Mind” mental health campaign, the International High School Essay Contest, and the chapter’s ongoing scholarship efforts.

Basileus Rodney Brown and the Brothers of Lambda Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. extends a warm hearted thank you to everyone who came out to support the inaugural All-Star Basketball Game.

The Brothers of Lambda and all participants are looking forward to making this an annual event.
