Minneapolis, MN, October 1, 2019 – The Rhineland Cake and Wine Company, the American Legion Post 57 in Chaska, MN, along with the Rush City Bakery, are proud to announce “Operation Cakes for Troops 2019”, a collaborative project to benefit and honor American troops stationed overseas during the 2019 Holiday Season.

The brainchild of Hiltrud Steimel, founder of the Rhineland Cake and Wine Company, “Operation Cakes for Troops 2019” is an initiative to remember our troops abroad who are away from home and family over the holidays. Family members, loved ones, and the general public can order an authentic, traditional German cake to be delivered to U.S. troops stationed abroad in time for the holiday season. Orders can be directed to family members or can be sent to a soldier at large.

Using a traditional German family recipe from Hiltrud Steimel’s grandmother, The Rush City Bakery will bake the cakes and together with the American Legion, Post 57, Chaska, package and ship the cakes to American troops in time for delivery before the holidays.

For Steimel, the inspiration for this venture is a personal one. "When I came to America from Germany in the early 1960s,” she said, “The first few holiday seasons away from home were very difficult. I can sense some of what these troops will feel when they're away from home and family in a strange land. Hopefully, these cakes will remind them of home when they’re so far away."

Using a time-honored family recipe from her grandmother and handed down through the generations, the cakes are baked using 100 percent all natural ingredients. Steimel selected a classic, traditional Gugelhupf cake dubbed “My Daughter’s Favorite Cake” for this venture, as it will ship the best. The cakes are frozen immediately after baking and are shipped frozen to ensure freshness upon arrival.

Operation Cakes For Troops 2019” is a welcome project for American Legion Post 57 to be involved in. We look forward to working with Hiltrud Steimel in this initiative to send some Minnesota holiday cheer to our troops, ”said Steve NaSalle, Commander, American Legion Post 57, Chaska, MN. “On behalf of myself and our Executive Board, we will work hard to make this an outstanding and successful project,” he continued.

Said John Bourgeois, owner of Rush City Bakery, “we at the Rush City Bakery are honored and proud to be doing the baking for Hiltrud Steimel's wonderful project “Operation Cakes for Troops 2019.” “Working under Hiltrud's guidance and in association with the American Legion Post 57 in Chaska, Minnesota, we will be staying true to Hiltrud's high standards and integrity for her original recipe. This will make sure her "Daughter's Favorite Cake" is a memorable gift for the troops during the upcoming holiday season,” he added.

Each “Operation Cakes for Troops” cake costs $40, which covers the cost of baking, packaging and shipping the cakes. All orders are placed via PayPal at http://www.rhinelandcakeandwine.com/troops/.

Deadline for orders is December 3, 2019. Cakes will be shipped on December 10, 2019 to ensure delivery by December 22, 2019. Each cake will have a Holiday Greeting attached, letting the soldiers know that they are being remembered here in Minnesota during this holiday season.
