CAMP WALKER, Republic of Korea — Army Community Service (ACS) hosted a Spouse’s Orientation and Subway Tour for newcomers to U.S. Army Garrison Daegu to help families get acquainted with their new home during the month of June.

ACS conducted Spouse’s Orientation, which typically occurs on the second Thursday of each month. Newcomers to Area IV who attended the class had a chance to meet with representatives from various organizations including Legal, Child & Youth Services, Exchange, Defense Commissary Agency, Religious Services, Red Cross and more. Attendees learned about the available programs and services and asked questions. The Spouse’s Orientation also provided newcomers an insight to Korean culture and offered tips and tricks to help ease the transition into their new home.

According to Area IV Relocation Specialist Joe Missildine “Spouse’s Orientation is a great way to learn about your new community.” Each military installation can have many differences, especially when overseas. “To come and learn what those differences are and know what you can and can’t do is very beneficial,” said Missildine.

ACS also organized a subway tour. The Newcomers Subway Tour taught attendees how to purchase tokens and subway cards, navigate the subway system and provided an opportunity to see some of Daegu’s main attractions including Duryu Park, E-world and downtown Daegu. ACS plans to offer the tour the first and third Saturday of each month.

To sign up or learn more about classes offered, newcomers can visit the ACS office at the Camp Walker Soldier Support Center, Room 202 or call 0503-363-4497.
