Last month, Korea’s professional baseball league kicked off its 2020 season, but with some measures due to COVID-19. One of those measures is the absence of fans cheering their favorite teams on from the stands. In their place, a few creative alternatives.
During the season opener in May, a 2-D crowd filled the stands as banners with images of actual fans were displayed at Incheon’s SK Happy Dream Park. On June 3, stuffed animals sent in by Hanwha Eagles fans filled the stands at the Hanwha Life Insurance Eagles Park in Daejeon for the Hanwha Eagles-Kiwoom Heroe game.
Officials said once fans are allowed to return to their rightful place in the stadium, the stuffed animals will be donated to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation.
