Eighteen students participated in Humphreys Middle School Hispanic Heritage Month program held om Thursday, October 10, 2024, in the auditorium. According to the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers, this year’s theme, Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together”, embodies the innovative and resilient spirit of the Hispanic community. It highlights the unity that has been experimental in forging a path for future generations.
HMS Assistant Principal, Natalya Cho gave the opening comments followed by introduction of the mistress of ceremony and master of ceremony. Next a short video featured the history of Hispanic Heritage Month. The following students representing the following countries and territories gave a short presentation:
8th grade student Gabriele Torres representing Honduras read a poem titled “Canto A La Patria”.
6th grade students Ivalee Marrero and Camila Rivera described traditions of Puerto Rico.
5th grade student Valerie Robinson described customs and traditions of Peru.
The highlight of the event included dance performances from 7th grade student Mia Ruiz representing Panama, 5th grade student Camila Barroso representing Mexico, and all of the students and staff of Humphreys Middle School participating in the Cha Cha Cha dance.
The event coordinator, Humphreys Middle School Administrative Mr. Michael Robinson, stated he was very pleased to see the enthusiasm demonstrated by the students participating in this event. Their presentations and performances demonstrated how Hispanic Americans have contributed to and enriched our society.
