Sales at major convenience stores across South Korea have surged following the government’s issuance of livelihood recovery consumption coupons.
CU, GS25, E-Mart 24, and 7-Eleven all reported strong sales increases from late July into early August.
GS25 recorded a near 300% jump in sales of ready-to-eat items like soups, stews, domestic beef, and chicken. CU saw a 17.6% sales rise in family home districts.
Both chains are capitalizing on the trend with deep discounts with CU offering instant rice for 600 won and cup noodles for 800 won, while GS25 promotes 1,700 discounted items and buy-four-get-one-free deals on its “Yours” line.
7-Eleven joined in with a 9,900 won whole chicken promo, while E-Mart 24 focuses on snacks, dairy, and BBQ coupons.
The coupon-driven competition marks one of the strongest convenience store booms in recent years, with food staples at the center.
